Mexico – Day 14: Finale
29 July 2026 · Klaus Demo · #mexico
Last day today. A strange feeling somehow. On the one hand a bit of a shame, because it is genuinely lovely here, and on the other hand it fits perfectly again. That has run through every stop of this trip, in fact. Not once did I feel we had been somewhere too long, or that we urgently needed one more day.
Today we did a best of the Club Med:
Beach
Swimming
Reading
Cooking class
Trapeze
Yoga
Sundown stretching
Dinner in the à la carte restaurant
Circus show
Crazy Signs (even with my partner!)
Looking back, this trip doesn't feel like ONE trip at all, but like five different chapters.
Mexico City was curiosity. Arriving, observing, diving in. Chilaquiles, art and history. The moment when "holiday" slowly turned into "Mexico".
San José del Pacífico was contact. Less programme, more experience. The ceremonies, the conversations, slowing down completely. One of those places you can barely describe without it sounding kitschy. So I won't even try.
Oaxaca was arriving. Not just seeing new things, not ticking things off (which would hardly have made sense with only one day), but starting to understand. Food (mole benchmarks), people, atmosphere, and above all food. 😉 And somehow nothing felt foreign any more.
Tulum was competence. Not just cavern diving, but diving better. Hovering, trim, suddenly so much calm underwater, the whole BP/W story, the people at the dive shop. Many of those moments where you suddenly notice how much you have actually learned. Not only technically, but also as a person.
Cancún was integration. Intended as a relaxed wind-down. Instead: trapeze, more diving, micheladas (a Mexican beer drink), conversations with GOs, a cooking class as a social experiment, and the realisation that the shoulder simply works again.
In the end this trip was more than the sum of its places. I think we set off to get to know a country. And now we come back and notice that along the way we also got to know ourselves a bit again. Without that ever being the plan. Okay, maybe a little, but not this consistently.

Fifteen days, fifteen entries, not one of them filler. That is harder than it looks.
I have followed the whole thing from day 0 and I am a bit sad it is over. Where next?
Thank you for keeping this up every single day while actually being on holiday. Most people give up around day four.
The bit about it being both a shame and exactly right is the truest thing in the series.
Come back for the Dia de Muertos season sometime. Different country entirely.
Read this on my commute and missed my stop. Worth it.
Just finished the whole series in one evening. Please do this again on the next trip.
