Mexico – Day 3: In the clouds

18 July 2026 · Klaus Demo · #mexico

It is remarkable how much you can experience in a single day. We only arrived yesterday, but the temazcal ceremony and all the walking around today make it feel like we have been here forever.

To be fair: this is not a big place either. But I think that is exactly where the charm lies.

Last night got exciting one more time. I had written that I wanted to light a fire. And I did. Well, almost. In any case, at some point the whole room was full of smoke.

My first thought was that the chimney flue wasn't open, and we called our host straight away. But apparently that flue thing is only a European problem. I should simply have lit the fire further back in the fireplace.

Oh well. I am not a professional fire starter. Lesson learned. And I can spoil the ending: we did not die of carbon monoxide poisoning last night.

The night was actually very restful and finally brought my partner the sleep they had been waiting for.

After getting up I dropped them off at a meditation ceremony. A nice plot of land in the forest, near the primary school.

I walked off in the direction I hadn't explored yet, followed a hiking trail and took my drone along.

In the afternoon we treated ourselves to something at the taquería and spent the rest of the day sleeping, reading and planning for tomorrow.

And today the fire worked on the first try!
